This is a blog about my internship experience in Motoguo. My internship partner is Enya so when I say “we” or “us”, I’m referring to me and her. ^^
Week 1: 2/1/2024 - 6/1/2024
On the first day, supervisor & boss roughly brief me and my colleagues about what I’ll be working on in Motoguo for the upcoming 12 weeks. Also, we learned about the daily chores that we might be doing them again during this internship.
Firstly, we learned how to tie curtain with a nice bow. This will be the chore that we need to do everyday once we arrived at the studio. This is also a practice because Motoguo’s designs have a lot of bows.
After that, we cleaned up the working areas since it is the first day of work. Then, we started to prepare clothing that need to be displayed. First, took out the clothes from their zip lock bags and do the steaming.
We also learn about hand-sewing (embellishment). Our creative director have a very specific way to sew it so they look clean and neat. This T-shirt is for the Levi’s x Motoguo project. Motoguo will be having a 2 days DIY Workshop at TRX- Levi’s store and the T-shirt is a sample purpose.
On this week, I unpick and deconstruct lots of Levi’s tote bag because we are going to redesign and remake them. In total, we need around 50 pieces of totebags.
Special task: we need to talk to our bosses individually (1 to 1) for more than 15 minutes in the first week for best. We can ask questions or chitchat.

Week 2: 8/1/2024 - 12/1/2024
On the second week, we focusing on preparing for Motoguo x Levi’s project. Levi’s new opening in TRX Mall, they collaborate with Motoguo to design and remake bags with Levi’s old totebag and give them to the VIP guests.
We unpick, deconstruct, cut into pieces and the team will sew them into a new design. I also help with a little bit of sewing with my portable sewing machine. When total around 50 pieces of bag done, me, Enya and another intern friend help to send them to TRX Mall.
After the Levi’s x Motoguo event ended, I arrange all the label tags, care labels, and all the Motoguo tags that is used for clothes in boxes. (Figure 2.8) Care labels of clothings need to be arranged according to Spring/Summer collection or Autumn/Winter collection, and the years of production.
Once done, we organise buttons according to the sizes and types in different zipper plastic bags. Our boss taught us how to use ligne (button ruler) to measure the size of the buttons. Then, we label the sizes of the buttons on the plastic bag. (Figure 2.9, Video 2.5)
Photo below: we cut small circles for later use when we want to do eyelet hole on T-shirt.

On the 3rd week, we continue to arrange all the buttons into zipper plastic bags. We spent almost one day to finish arranging all the buttons from Motoguo. (Video 3.1)
There are some customers want to borrow garments from Motoguo so I have to arrange them according to a list and put them in the garment bags.(Figure 3.1, 3.2)
After the Levi's DIY event, there's a lot of leftover haberdasheries including buttons, beads, ribbons, and much more that need to be organised according to its designs. We took out all the mixed materials and arrange them into bags. (Video 3.2)
I also get to take an extra bandanna and haberdasheries to decorate our own bandanna. (Figure 3.3)
We qc all stock of "The Majordomo" knitwear that we have and replace the oxidise buttons with new buttons. (Video 3.3)

Week 4: 22/1/2024 - 28/1/2024
On this week, we work for 7 days because next week is CNY Open House event so this week we will be busying preparing for that event.
Before that, I replace the latest collection's flower pants metal hooks to another type of hooks because the new one secure better. (Figure 4.1) It's not easy to attach it because the jeans are hard and we have to hide the stitches in between the outside and inside of the waistband. (Figure 4.2)
On the first day of work, I felt sick, tired and wanted to vomit. After trying hard to stay focus on work, I felt that I can't continue anymore so I ask for leave at 5pm. When I leave work, I go back home and rest. At night, I vomited a few times and keep going to the toilet. The other day, I went to see doctor and take MC for 2 days just in case. (Figure 4.3) But I only absent for 1 day because I feel better on Wednesday.
When I returned back, I continue to replace the buckle of the denim pants. (Video 4.1) Once all the pants have been replaced, I iron them so the hook area can be flat. I also replaced the oxidise buttons of the shirt. (Figure 4.4)
After that, I make a list about the care labels with arrangement so we can stick outside its box. (Video 4.2) We also check all the clothings on the racks to make sure they have label tag on it.
Then, we started the process of preparing for CNY Open House event. Firstly, we mix and match different types and sizes of buttons in packs. They are either 6 buttons in a pack or 12 buttons in a pack. We prepared around 50-100 packs for sales. (Video 4.3)
We also prepared different printing of neckerchief as gift for the event. Motoguo team prepared the pattern and I cut the fabrics follows the pattern. (Figure 4.7, Video 4.4) I think we prepared around 100 neckerchief in total. After cut out the fabric, team Motoguo will overlock the sides. I also helped to overlock a few of them. Then, I steamed all the sides of it with steamer iron. Team Motoguo sew all of them and I iron them so they look neat and tidy. (Figure 4.8) Once done, I rolled each of them in a specific way and put them in a box. (Figure 4.9)
Our bosses decorated the places and separated them into different areas. We have Dry Goods Store, Fukubukuro Store, Haberdashery Stop, DIY Station, Paracosm, Jewellery Store, Marketplace and Cashier. We also helped to decorate a little bit.
Our boss asked us to write our wishes on a ribbon and tie it on the Wishing Chinchilla. (Video 4.5)

Week 5: 29/1/2024 - 4/2/2024
It's the first day of CNY Open House, we got a chance to wear Motoguo clothings during this event. On the first day, there are not so many customers so I continued some of the works such as cutting paper board for label purpose. (Video 5.1)
When there are customers, we will assist them with checking prices, sizes and stocks. We also help them to hang clothes for fitting, cut and tie ribbons if them want to write wishes and take clothes for them. If they want to buy it, we will check the quality, repair or replace if there's some problems then only pack them nicely in our packaging.
We have a Wishing Chinchilla area so if people want to make wishes, I will help them to cut ribbons so they can write on it and when it's done, I will tie a bow on it.
When there are no customers and no tasks to do, I will walk around and check if everything is hang on rack orderly. If some of the bows are open, I will tie them nicely. (Video 5.2)

Week 6: 5/6/2024 - 7/6/2024
On this week, we left 2 days Open House. Same as last week, when there are customers, I will assist them with checking prices, sizes and stocks. I also help them to hang clothes for fitting, cut and tie ribbons if them want to write wishes and take clothes for them. If they want to buy it, I will check the quality, repair or replace if there's some problems then only pack them nicely in our packaging.
I also took some footages and make a video about the scenario of this event. (Video 6.1)
Overall, I think this event is success because there are a lot of people there and the exposure to publicity is not bad. We as a worker also had fun and enjoyed the weeks.

Our boss bought a new pack of hangers’ rubber stickers so we need to stick them on the hangers. (Figure 7.1)
We also went out to buy zipper plastic bag because there's not much leftover. We went to a few stationery shops because we need to find the suitable sizes and quantity for the best price. (Figure 7.2)
This week, we make an excel list to list out the items on racks because CNY event has just ended. We need to confirm the products' quantity and sizes are correct compared to before the CNY event. (Figure 7.3)
Our boss also assigned us to do research & development about T-shirt design. (Figure 7.4) He brief us about this project and want us to brainstorming ideas as much as possible. I researched about Motoguo past collections T-shirt and their inspiration. After knowing their styles and background stories, I noticed Motoguo love to do design with gimmick as inspiration. So I started brainstorming follow this direction.

On this week, we continued our brainstorming for T-shirt and accessories ideas. We also have 3 new tasks to work at the same time.
Firstly, we need to brainstorming Podcast title ideas for upcoming plans. I also did research about our main hosts because I want the name is related to the hosts.
Next, we need to research about recommended AI Software for smart meeting. Because Motoguo Team always have a lot of meetings and there are many things need to discuss, so a good AI software that can record and transcribe information is important. We list down around 8 AI softwares to compare the functions, pricing and reviews to choose the best one among all. (Figure 9.3 - 9.9)
Another task is brainstorming about creative and fun ideas to display Motoguo's scarf, neck ties, pillow cases and more.
We also took down all the wishing ribbons on the Wishing Chinchilla from CNY event because we need to return the wooden artwork. (Video 9.1)
We helped to set up a photography area because we need to photoshoot the fukunikuro product for sales. (Figure 9.11)

On this week, we present our previous project such as T-shirt Research & Development, Podcast Title, AI Software for Smart Meeting and Display Rack Ideas. Then, we helped our bosses to arrange back the tables arrangement in the studio after CNY project. (Figure 10.1)
We also displayed new products on the racks and before we hang them up, we check the quality of the products. If some of the products have a small problems, such as the stitching is loose or the buttons are oxidise, we will help to repair them. (Figure 10.3)
Once we are done with checking, we clean the racks and clothing to make sure there is no dust stick on the clothes. (Figure 10.5)
Our boss also assigned us to do 2 new research on this week. Firstly, I researched about Malaysian artists and designers that are focusing on creating molds, furnishings and decorations. I think these artists are very cool because they have their very outstanding aesthetic and style of art. I feel that it would be great for them to collaborate with Motoguo because they have something in common. (Figure 10.7 -10.11)
Other than that, I also did an event planning for Motoguo 10th Anniversary which is next year. The purpose of holding this event is because we want to celebrate this important day with our big family (supportive customers). I came up with some ideas of how we can hold the event. This included the timeline of the event, venues, activities, pop-up stores, foods and beverages, DIY workshop and more. (Figure 10.12)

This week, our boss brief us new tasks.
First, we need to finish listing out all the website shop products and description in a file and classify them. Because this task is very important and heavy, Enya and another intern (XiaoXuan) helped me with it.
Next, I also did a case study for brand - Acne Studios. I researched about the brand's background, their runway collections, products and more. Our boss assigned me this brand because he think their value market is very high in the current fashion industry and we want to learn something from them.
Our boss asked us to take down big sweaters from rack because we don't want the sweaters change shapes due to the weights. We fold them nicely and display them under the racks.
We also did jewellery QC. We cleaned it and checked if any items are defected, if yes we will stick a sticker mention it outside the box.
I helped my boss to hang clothes back the racks because he took them to do some shooting in the studio. I also helped him to iron, cut, and burn the ending of the ribbons for embellishment purpose.
