WHAT I LEARN IN…
Week 1
Today Ms. Maria brought us go through the module information, taught us how CAMS works and was briefing about our upcoming assignments and final projects. We looked at a few examples of E-Portfolio that did by our seniors and I was really excited about making my own E-Portfolio since it looks really fun.
Also, Ms Maria asked us 2 questions:
- How do you describe fashion?
- What do you want to achieve in these 3 university years?
I had written FREEDOM.
The reason why I think Fashion is Freedom because I believe that we can always express ourselves through fashion without caring about other's judgements.
We must not be judgemental about other's fashion because this is who there are, it's their freedom.
It's our FREEDOM.
With this question, I had written
- Find My True Self
- Genuinely Happy
- Satisfied with My Works
"Starve Your Distractions, Feed your Focus"
^ Ms. Maria showed us this meaningful quote.
Here's the answers from the class:
Today we had a Welcoming Session with Mr Andrew Tan, I was really excited and nervous at the moment because Ms. Maria asked us to be prepared with questions which can bring great help to us. I asked Mr. Andrew "how to find or create a very personal style because STYLE is really important to every designers". This question had doubt me for a long time because it is really hard for me to decide which kind of style I should I go with as I'm okay with every styles. But here's what Mr. Andre said:
"As a designer, there will comes one day we must decide which style that can represent us the most."
I'm totally agree with him because we don't want to see a messy collection on a runway show. I will try my very best to find My True Self and My Own Style so I can make my own designs and be genuinely happy and satisfied with my works one day in the future.
Week 2
Today we learnt about elements of design and principles of design. We were required to search 3 fashion designs that included the certain principle given by Ms Maria. I found out that actually most designs are came from these principles but I didn’t know that before.
- Elements of Design : Line, Shape, Form, Colour, Texture and Space
- Principles of Design : Pattern, Contrast, Emphasis, Balance, Proportion/Scale, Harmony and Rhythm/Movement
My research from Google:
Contrast
Emphasis
Rhythm/Movement
After understanding all the elements and principles of design, I started develop some ideas that included those principles.
Week 3
Today Ms Maria taught us how to create our own fashion design theme and a mood board. I’m really in love with this lesson because I got chance to create my own mood board, it’s like telling people who you are with an art work. I like it when Ms Maria asked us to close our eyes and think about ideas for our designs, it’s like giving us a space to talk with our minds and get the inspiration from our heart. After we done brainstorming the ideas and moodboard, we move forward to another lesson. Ms Maria showed us the skills to apply watercolours and markers on our design. I tried a few times to make my works look better so I can decide which to use in my assignment 1.

MY DESIGN PROCESS
Moodboard : ROCK THE NIGHT
1. Rock
2. Cool
3. Trend
4. Light, Flowing
5. Overlap
6. Musical Festival
7. Independent
8. Soft and Tough
For this 10 fashion illustration collection, I wanted to do something that is Rock N Roll but yet not so heavy metal. Just some rock elements but still a rock, cool and a little bit chic women’s wear. Also, I made a theme for them which is a music festival so these designs are for the people who are going to show up in a Rock N Roll music festival. They attend the event either as a performer or an audience to Rock The Night. So the designs of this collection should be eye-catching and voguish.

These are my sketching progress in week 3. I didn’t finish the colour because I wanted to show the designs to Ms Maria first, so she can give me some feedback to decide which designs to use and which are not suitable.
Week 4
In today’s class, we had an feedback section with Ms Maria. I showed her my process and she gave me some guidance on how should I work for my designs. I agreed with her points and I think the feedbacks really help a lot. I looked back at my moodboard and see what’s the thing that I really wanted to do so I started some new designs. For those useable designs, I added elements to make them fit the concept of my collection. I’ve make sure all the designs have either belt, chains, leather jacket or sharp rivet so they have the rock style.
New Sketches
Figure 1.4After I’m satisfied with my designs and make sure they have the rock style elements, I started colour them in watercolour. I focused on the colour palette - pink, gold, black and white.
FEEDBACK FROM LECTURER
Ms Maria said she do love my moodpboard and it is very clear to see the colour palette. She can see in term of shape, I have more volume and raffles so she advised me to develop design that consist ruffles and volume. She reminded me that my theme is rock so not come out the design too chic. She have done some sample of cut and paste for me so I can develop the silhouette that I desire.
FINAL DESIGN OUTCOME

I drew the lines on the eyes because I got inspiration from the pictures Ms Maria sent to us and I think I can do something with the eyes as my skill at drawing eyes is not that professional. Also, I think it’s quite cool and swag to have those lines so it fits the theme quite well. It feels like the models are saying “we don’t care what’s happening in front of us, we just want to ROCK N ROLL.”
