PROCESS :
Week 6
Today, Ms Maria briefs us our first semester final project- Essential Fashion. In this project, we need to develop our design ideas using skills we have obtained throughout the semester. In week 6, I have identified my target market, found my muse and created a board (not the final outcome) that included mood, concept and colour.
So, I have decided to take Olivia Rodrigo as my muse. The reason why is I love her style, her songs and everything about her. She’s so young and talented. For the colour, I want to focus on purple, pink, blue, mint green, yellow… which are all colours from candy because my theme for this collection is Spicy Gummy and sour cream. So it would be quite creamy with those macaroon colours.
Week 7
In this week, we show Ms Maria our target market, muse, and 3 boards ( moodboard, concept board and colour board).
TARGET MARKET
For the target market, I’m aiming buyers there’s from 16 years old to 24 years old, so basically they’re teenagers or young adults. My targeted gender is female because I’m going to design womenswear. The locations are city, town and mall because I think these places surrounded by more young people. Their occupation might be a student, young artist or a performer and their income is between lower middle to middle class. These people’s lifestyles are very fun, active and outgoing. They love parties and always willing to try new things.
MUSE
Olivia Rodrigo is my muse for this collection, She’s a pop singer, songwriter and actress. Although she’s only 18 years old, she’s already famous, successful and talented. Her latest album - SOUR is nominated for 2021 Grammy Award. Talk about this SOUR album, it is where my inspiration came from. This album ‘s songs mostly are about a teenage girl who has just broke up with her boyfriend, so basically it’s a heartbreaking story but she still looks wild and hot. So I took this as an inspiration and named my collection as Sweethearts because I believe with or without love, we are still our own sweethearts. Also, I can see her sweet, hot, wild and strong personality in it. I love her vibe and I felt she can well represent my brand.
MOODBOARD
For this collection, I want to do something sweet, fun, cute and young. This collection is going to feels like candy, very soft, sweet and tasty. The design is going to be delightful and unique.
After I created this moodboard and show it to Ms Maria, she gave me some feedbacks and suggestions. So, I do some adjustment and make it more clear about the things I wanted to show in this collection.
COLOUR BOARD
At the very first, I created this colour board with 8 colours, I focused on the cotton candy colour palette so it looks more young and cute.
But when I was trying to apply the colours into my design, I found it too much with 8 colours and it may let my collection looks messy so I reduced it to only 6 colours.
Week 8
This week is independent learning week, Ms Maria asked us to prepare 15 sketches so we can show her.
After deciding the style for this collection, I started to do some sketches with any ideas that is related to the concept. I thought of different types of candy, such as cotton candy, gummy bears, lollipops, gum balls, jordon almonds, taffy and more. I used candies as inspiration and finally comes out with 15 sketches.
Week 9
In this week, we finish all the colouring and Ms Maria helped us to choose out 4 garment pieces that we are going to proceed.
I used another piece of paper to try out with different combinations of the colour and see which result is the best.
Week 10 & Week 11
In week 10 and week 11, I started my prototype making process. First, I drew out all the master patterns for each garments so I can draw out my design pattern on it. Mr Riza and Ms Maria guided me in this process.
