EXERCISE 4 : DART MANIPULATION

WEEK 4

Today, Mr Riza shared with us about dart manipulation. It is one of the most creative ways to develop sewing patterns or get creative by moving the darts around the pattern block and shifting the dart excess to new position. There are types of dart which is Centre Front Neck, Centre Neck, Centre Front, Centre Shoulder, Underarm, French, Armhole and Waist. So basically it is 360 degree to manipulate different darts.

Methods :
1. Pivot
2. Slashing and Spreading (Slash and Open)

Before that, we need to prepare a mahjong paper and a size 12 bodice front block.

Pivot Method

1. Waist Dart

2. Underarm Dart

3. Armhole Dart

Slashing and Spreading Method

1. Centre Neck Dart

My Thoughts

At first, I thought it was not easy as it seemed to be complicated but I slowly followed up the process then I can understand the methods. When Mr Riza asked which is the easier method during the classes, I wasn't really sure but still I thought the first one would be easier because we don’t need to trace out but after I did them myself, I think the slashing and spreading method can be easier because we don’t have to change much in drafting the pattern, we just need to draw out those fixed lines, cut it out and fold it. I can say it is not so confusing than the previous one because I redrew a few times for the pivot method. ( >.< ) But still, I think we need to know all the methods so we can use them smoothly in the future.
