PROJECT 1 : PROPOSAL
WEEK 1 - WEEK 3
Project 1 Brief (from MIB) :
Week 1
In week 1, we get to know every lecturers from this module and have a briefing section about all the important information for this module and the projects. After that, we started our first lecture - Netnography with Dr. Charles.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Netnography
✔️ There is a high scope of potential valuable data
✔️ It can overcome geographical limitations
✔️ Data is naturally-occurring
✔️ There is the opportunity to discover unexpected findings
✔️ Data may be available online that wouldn't be unearthed in a face-to-face context
✔️ It is contemporary
✖️ It is largely empirical and not contextual
✖️ Researchers may not be familiar with online platforms or choose irrelevant online platforms
✖️ Data collection and analysis may be time-consuming or may have invalid data
Week 2
In this week, Mr. Razali told us how to compose our proposal by showing us an example of our senior work. Their topic is Japanese Erotica, which is about Shunga art and hentai in the modern society. Because we have a few questions about the culture and others so Ms. Jinchi recorded a lecture section - Culture and Us.

Project 1
In this project, we need to create a proposal about our topic - Wayang Kulit.
On 3rd Jan, we had our first meeting and decided our topic. Everyone gave their own ideas, and voted for the their preferred idea. I personally suggested to do something with musical genres.
After the discussion, we agreed with the topic - Wayang Kulit and started to do research and plan on how to work on this project.
After a consultation with Ms JinChi, we have a group discussion and wanted to choose a concepts for our proposal. We came up with two concepts - Preservation and Adaptation. We think that both concepts are fine and couldn't make decision about which to go with. So we asked Ms for her opinion. She suggested that we can actually merge them because we can preserve a tradition through adapting to the modern times. We finally decided our concept as Preservation through Adaptation.
Before we started our proposal, we did some research on wayang kulit to introduce them to everyone. The presentation slides included the rationale, information of Wayang Kulit, such as types of story, moral of the story in Wayang Kulit, types of wayang in Indonesia, differences between Wayang Kulit Indonesia and Kelantan and more. We contributed the works equally.
I am responsible for the information of Types of Wayang in Indonesia.
Firstly, it is Wayang Beber:
A form of dramatic narrative on the Indonesian island of Java.
Secondly, it is Wayang Klitik:
It also known as Krucil Gepeng puppet. Made in East Java.
Then, it is Wayang Golek:
One of the traditional Sundanese puppet arts from West Java.

Next, we got Wayang Topeng:
One of the classic forms of mask theatre in Bali.
Wayang Topeng can seperate into 2 types: Topeng Pajegan/ Topeng Wali and Topeng Panca Wanda/ Topeng Cirebon.

Proposal
In our proposal, there are problem statement, research questions, research objectives, data collection methods and preliminary ideas. Our ideas are based on the concept to preserve this wayang kulit calture through adapting it with the modern times. The background of the concept is because the number of wayang kulit plays are getting lesser so we think there is a need to preserve it for the future generations.
In the first time, we thought of several ideas that how we going to do with Wayang Kulit. Either we combine it with modern characters, apply it on different products (tote bag, facial mask) or use it in modern movies.

After the consultation with Ms Jinchi, she suggested us to think about more creative and different ideas since the idea we had is actually just applying Wayang Kulit with something. So, we came out with 5 preliminary ideas to do for this topic.
Final Preliminary Ideas
1. Creating a plan to develop a game of Wayang Kulit
2. Create and apply wayang multi elements on items
3. A story board campaign that let audiences choose their storyline
4. Online showroom
5.Drawing contest
In this stage, everyone has their own parts to work on. After we agreed with the ideas, we distributed 5 ideas to different persons so we can work on the PPT.
Chze Huang created a wayang kulit design for different items such as tote bag, wallpaper, and online showroom gallery. He also did the planning to develop a game of wayang kulit. Britney and Jomin be in charged of idea 2 which is apply wayang kulit elements on items. Sky and Chze Huang be responsible for the online showroom and drawing contest is done by Emeline. For me, I be in charged of creating a storyboard campaign and audiences can choose the storyline.
These are my idea in sketches:

After a consultation with Ms Jinchi for us to show her our ideas and getting suggestion, we decided to create an a virtual showroom as our final idea.
FEEDBACK from Ms. Jinchi
Before the presentation
After we talked about our very first idea, Ms Jinchi said that our 5 ideas are too similar, so they should be counted in a category. She suggested us to think about more creative ideas so we can have more choices.
She also said that we should be clear with which type of Wayang Kulit we going to focus on, Indonesian or Malaysian.
After the presentation
Ms said our ideas are well thought out and meet the research objectives so we can proceed to the data collection part. All our presentation are quite eloquent but the time duration of the distribution is a little bit out of balance.
REFLECTION
In this project 1, I have learnt something more about our culture and Indonesian culture about Wayang Kulit. It’s quite interesting to get to know something that I never touched and learned before. The difficulty of this stage is we have to collect real and true information about Wayang Kulit from the Internet since there’s too many materials out there. Also, came out with the best idea is not an easy thing especially we are in a group, it’s necessary to make sure that everyone is happy with the result. Thanks to Ms Jinchi because she gave us a lot of useful suggestions and guidances. So far everything is going well.
