FINAL PROJECT : ZERO WASTE FASHION

WEEK 7 - WEEK 14

Final Project Brief ( from MIB ) :

In this project, we need to:

1. Identity our target market, think of who we are designing for. (in a BOARD)

3. Create a MOODBOARD and CONCEPT BOARD.

4. Develop fashion sketches, work on the silhouette and pay attention to details.

5. Draw the Finalise 3 LOOKS (front profile - full body - full colour)

7. Select the fabrics we’re going to use.

8. Create FABRIC BOARD / SWATCHES COMPILATION

9. Create TECHNICAL DRAWING / FLAT DRAWING (front&back view) for the 4 ITEMS. Pay attention to details (stitches, opening, texture, embellishment, etc)

10. Capture the FINAL LOOKS complete with FULL STYLING.

Target Market

Mood Board

This collection is called “Dark Romance”, it is created by incorporating Zero Waste Fashion technique. The strength of Zero Waste Fashion is that we can reduce fabric waste and create garments that are environmental friendly.
My inspiration for this collection is dark romanticism. Dark romanticism is a literary sub-genre of Romanticism , reflecting popular fascination with the irrational, the demonic and the grotesque. Often conflated with Gothic fiction, it has shadowed the euphoric Romantic movement ever since its 18th-century beginnings. In this collection, you will see dark grey colour tone, elements such as rope, strings, net and draping effect. I reduced the Gothic vibe because I want it to look more wearable and expand the market.

Concept Board

My concept board is showing the silhouette I wanted to make and it is going to have a lot of drawstrings because I want it to be focus without too many methods. Also, drawstrings is already good enough to create different effects for 3 looks.
For the sustainable meter calculation board, I got total 16 points. The strengths of my designs are the fabric is factory excess and the potential for up cycling is more than 80%.

Fabric Board

For the fabric I chose stretchable cotton that is actually factory excess. The fabric colour and texture definitely matches my designs and created a beautiful effect with the drawstrings. The colour is in grey because of my theme and the net and flowers are my accessories.

3 Final Looks

In these looks, you can see that different placements may create different kind of effects so it is unique. Also, we can adjust the length by loosen or tighten the drawstrings. I think the best part of these designs is it can looks different according to how the buyer play with it.

Drawing Process

Technical Drawing

These are my technical drawings that show clearer of the construction of the designs. They are actually made in rectangular pieces of fabric but create different length and effects because of the drawstrings. So it makes them asymmetrical and unique.

Feedback from lecturers

Ms Maria: Ms advised me to do some changes with the third look because now the silhouette of the skirt looks slightly different from the other two. The bottom of the other two look chill and free but the third look is like holding back them with not enough movement given. Overall, she thinks that the collection looks almost perfect especially the fabric really plays well with the drawstring, it is a perfect combination.

Mr JR: Mr JR advised me to make the third look's top and Botton into one dress because consider to the buyer. I learned from him that every pieces we sell must be worth for customers to buy. If they look nice together, they also need to look nice separately then only we can successfully sell them out. He also suggested me to add chilli red full body set that is very fitted to body for KLFW because the colour goes well together and that is a eye-popper.

Mr Riza: Mr Riza said that my sewing skill improve a lot. The lines are clean and neat. He advised me to read more books about fashion design and widen my vocabulary and knowledge so I can know the name of those technique terms and elements.
