ASSIGNMENT 1: PORTFOLIO RESEARCH & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Assignment Brief
In the first week, our lecturer brief us our assignment guidelines and what’s the requirements. For this semester, our aim is to come out with one collection that is inspired by body image and positivity. Each of us is going to choose one different topic and use that for the collection inspiration. For my collection, I’ve chose plastic surgery. Before I show more about this collection, let’s have a look at the research parts,
Research
- Body Image and Positivity
What is body image?
- Body image is a person's thoughts, feelings and perception of the aesthetics or sexual attractiveness of their own body.
- Body image can be negative ("body negativity") or positive ("body positivity"). A person with a negative body image may feel self-conscious or ashamed, and may feel that others are more attractive.
In a time where social media holds a very important place and is used frequently in our daily lives. People of different ages are affected emotionally and mentally by the appearance and body size/shape ideals set by the society they live in. These standards created and changed by society created a world filled with body shaming; the act humiliating an individual by mocking or making critical comments about a person’s physiological appearance. So many people struggle with society’s criticism on their appearance. With so much negativity, it is often difficult to love oneself.

Conceptual Story Narrative
The society sets up a lot of condition that we need to reach in order to look perfect to others. Because of that, plastic surgery becomes a normality in this generation. People started to get plastic surgery because of criticism of one’s appearance and self-conscious. A little of plastic surgery may brings self-confidence to people but some had the oddest manias. They couldn’t stop themselves from reaching the “perfect body” so that leads to a horrible, irreparable result.
This Spring/Summer 2022 collection – Bloody Bombshell shows the unexpected and unpleasant effects of plastic surgery. I reconstruct the unproportionate facial figure to create different layout on the garments. The juxtaposition of the figure and texture creates a kind of fabric that reflects plastic surgery. I experienced this technique and tried to create a different kind of beauty.
This collection is to shows the bombshell of plastic surgery and to convey the message that beauty is cannot be measured. Beauty is just an empty notion without the inside; it should be about health, strength, positivity, and being stress-free. Beauty isn’t the same for everyone. We can and should build our own version of beauty, build our best selves.
