Final Graduation Collection

Hush-A-Bye

Initial Ideas - Mindmap

In this collection, I want to do something that is personal and related to me. So I thought of my childhood.

Kit guided us to make a mind map and list out all the points we can think about related to our theme, so I list down all my ideas such as:

- personal
- audacious
- darkness
- innocence
- dream
- fairytale
- colour
- playful

When I can't think of more ideas, I stop and look at all the points I have. I decided to focus on a few key words - innocence, dreamy and fairytale.
After I decided which direction I want to go with, I started to search images with the key words.
Below are the results how I want how my collection feels like. It has the feel of victorian era, dreamland and fairy princess.

This is a concept board for my collection.

I also get inspired by some pictures and researched for the techniques that I can develop in this collection.
From the pictures, I got the feelings of softness, romantic, dreamy and wonderland.

Techniques that I got inspired by the pictures:

- draping effect
- pattern pieces
- continuous cut
- gathered
- raffles

Fabric choices (light and soft):

- soft net
-organza
-texture fabrics
-lace

I also decided to play with wax and embellishments so it has playful feeling.

Moodboard

After I finalise my design concept, I created a mood board that can help me to have a clearer vision of my collection.

These are my initial sketches and after I did the calico prototype in previous semester, I decided to change a few of them and came out with a final lineup.

This is my final design lineup.

After I done the design process, I started to go fabric hunting and look for anything that is suitable for my collection. I want the collection to be playful and audacious so I played with many kind of fabrics and mix and match them together and see which comes well.
